Becoming Better Daily
| The principle of Becoming Better Daily, or B.B.D. is at the core of living a joyful life. You cannot be any good to others, yourself, or your community until you lay a good foundation and work on who you are. This principle states, by its very essence, that you can be a better person than you were 10 years ago, a better person than you were one year ago, a better person than you were a week ago, and a better person than you were even yesterday. Working on yourself is a key principle and it is what makes you work better as you search, and create, a more magical and joyful life. In Tarot there is a Trump card called the Fool. In the Rider-Waite deck it shows a young and innocent man starting out on an exciting adventure. He has no idea where he is going, or how he is going to get there, but he is starting out on his journey nonetheless. His had looking toward the sky, his head almost literally in the clouds, he has no idea where he is walking. A cliff, with a sharp drop off ahead, stands in his path. Being on the top of a high mountain, if he continues to plow straight ahead, he will plunge to his very death or fly to new heights. He is demonstrating the ultimate leap of faith. The fool card is anything but foolish. He is trying to teach us that almost every new adventure in life requires a step forward into the unknown. How exciting, but also very frightening, is the idea that in order to truly grow we have to take a chance. We may find success, or we may fall on our face, but in order to grow toward a state of joy we need to keep moving ahead. Joy, and growth toward joy, is only possible if we keep moving forward. Just like a shark if we stop moving then we die. There is no joy without growth. This constantly moving forward, and taking chances, is the only way to discover true happiness. People who never work on themselves and stay the same from day to day are squandering their sacred birthright. Many self-help gurus will tell their students that they are capable of anything and that they can achieve anything that they set their mind to. However, as true as this concept is, there is a basic flaw in its meaning as far as many of these gurus are concerned. They equate it with making money and acquiring power and both of those concepts are ideas that bring a person the farthest away from joy then most any other. Take a new leap today and try something new. Take an online college course and learn something new. Read a book on nature, science, or astrology and learn something new just for the sake of learning something new. Help someone that you don’t know by helping to carry something for them or by doing a small gesture of kindness toward them. See a movie that will challenge you or go see an art exhibit by yourself and immerse yourself in the paintings or sculptures. Compliment as many people as you can and do it sincerely and warmly.Looking for ways to experience joy isn’t hard. You just have to open your door and take the first step.
